Baltimore, Maryland — August 11, 2010 — Localist, provider of the most powerful online platform for local entertainment listings, today announced a partnership with TBD.com, a new Washington-area web site that launched Monday. The Localist Platform delivers social event and venue curation to TBD’s web presence.
With an integrated TV and web newsroom, TBD – which is owned by Allbritton Communications Company — is putting emphasis on using social media to actively engage the local community to enhance news coverage. To that end, the Localist Platform offers the high level of social engagement that today’s audiences expect, while allowing TBD’s editors to leverage its powerful curation functionality to quickly and easily deliver a strong offering of entertainment content to visitors.
”We’re thrilled to have Localist as a launch partner,” said Jim Brady, general manager of TBD. “Localist’s focus on integrating social media into its listings has allowed TBD to expose readers to a wide variety of voices and opinions.”
In addition, through Localist’s tight integration with Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, many event and venue profiles have a wealth of information already available, eliminating the need for users to visit several different websites.
Localist worked closely with TBD’s design team during the development phase to ensure an entirely seamless user experience between the Localist Platform and the rest of TBD.com. The partnership showcases the high level of customization the Localist Platform is capable of offering.
“We’re very excited to be working with TBD,” said Mykel Nahorniak, co-founder and president of Localist. “Localist is a perfect fit, as they are taking a forward-thinking approach to news gathering by adding social elements and pulling content from a wide variety of sources, just as Localist does for events and local entertainment.”
Additionally, Localist enabled new functionality as part of the TBD unveiling. An all new “Channel Page” feature allows partners to dedicate individual pages to specific content types, like listings of nearby restaurants, or upcoming movies. The platform’s search functionality has also been rebuilt from scratch, adding a location-based element which brings more flexibility and focus to all results.
