Localist, provider of the most powerful online platform for university calendar management, today announced partnerships with five higher education institutions in the Washington, DC region: Hampton University, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), the University of Maryland Biopark, Goucher College and Washington & Lee University. The Localist Platform is delivering social event and venue content to students and faculty on their respective campuses. Localist is now partnered with over half of the higher education institutions in the Baltimore region. “These schools saw how Localist transformed the way students engage around events at Johns Hopkins University and Notre Dame and decided they couldn’t let another semester pass without bringing Localist to their campus,” said Mykel Nahorniak, president and co-founder of Localist. Hampton University is Localist’s first HBCU partner. Earlier in 2010, Barack Obama delivered the commencement speech at Hampton. MICA’s Localist implementation highlights the ability for a partner’s design team to control the entire look and feel of the platform. The Localist team set up the shell and the MICA team did the rest, transforming it to fit perfectly with the rest of mica.edu. The platform is live and viewable at http://fyi.mica.edu. The University of Maryland Biopark is the first school under the UMD umbrella to adopt Localist. The platform will be used to drive all on-campus Biopark-related events. After years of using a static PDF to communicate upcoming events to students and faculty, Goucher College adopted Localist. Within the first week of go-live, 20% of the campus had logged in and were actively participating on the Localist platform. Goucher’s Localist calendar can be viewed at http://events.goucher.edu. Washington & Lee University is a rural institution, but Localist’s flexibility is allowing the school to help spread the word of its very vibrant community.
